Crater Lake Drive in Early September

On the Friday before Labor Day early in the morning we left our campsite at Odell Lake to drive down to Crater Lake to drive the Crater Lake Rim drive and take some pictures.  The rim drive is a little over 30 miles long with a lot of pullouts and picture opportunities.

DSC05876When driving around the rim every view looks spectacular, especially if there is blue sky and sunshine or some dramatic clouds.  This doesn’t translate into good photographs and I found myself looking for something interesting to put in the foreground to make the photos more interesting.

DSC05892Placing a tree with some interesting bright green moss with the lake in the background also allowed me to frame the moon in upper left of the image.

DSC05884Stumps and trees can help the frame the lake and add interest to photos as well.

DSC05877My favorite foreground subjects were my wife and son who joined me on the drive.

DSC05938We finished up back at Odell Lake where Jacob enjoyed fishing from the dock.

A Drive Through the Country

Took a drive out through some of the country roads around my house taking pictures this past weekend.  Left the house with nothing in particular planned, but just wanted to get out and see what my son and I could find.

Started out driving on Triumph Drive in Sublimity on some winding country roads and ended up in Stayton at a local park on the river.  The pictures weren’t anything special, but I had a good time traveling around with my son taking pictures and talking.

Workshop Photography

Went to Seattle last weekend for a photography lighting workshop put on by Jason Lanier at Glazers Camera.

Jason is a Sony Artisan and Rotolight Master of Lighting. I thought his class was very good, Jason is very personable and down to Earth. He takes the time to answer any questions and provides thoughtful insights into what has made him successful.

Jason brought a couple of models and allowed us the opportunity to get some shots inside the store after his talk.

We then went outside and took some more shots while Jason gave tips and let us use his Rotolight setup.

I thought it was a great class and I want to thank my wife for sending me for my birthday.
